In late-1960s Japan, a group of young boys built a secret hideout, creating a unique symbol to represent their bond and writing a fictional Book of Prophecy about a futuristic villain attempting to destroy the world. Decades later, Kenji Endo is a weary former musician managing his family convenience store and raising his infant niece. His quiet life shatters when a childhood friend dies under suspicious circumstances, coinciding with a wave of bizarre events and the rise of a powerful cult leader known simply as Friend. To Kenji's horror, Friend uses the exact secret symbol and executes the precise catastrophic events detailed in the boys' childhood fantasy notebook.

Forced out of obscurity, Kenji must reassemble his childhood group to dig through their forgotten memories and uncover which of their old playmates is hiding behind Friend's mask. The mystery spans multiple decades, shifting between nostalgic childhood summers and a terrifying turn-of-the-millennium timeline where biological weapons and global devastation loom large. With every revelation introducing fresh twists, Kenji races against time to dismantle an apocalyptic scheme born from his own past before humanity reaches its final hour.
